ICES/NAFO Symposium: Gadoid Fisheries

15-18 October 2013 St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada

A ICES/NAFO Symposium "Gadoid Fisheries:The Ecology and Management of Rebuilding" will be held 15-18 October 2013 at St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada.

The symposium will:

  • Address historical dynamics and current status of gadoid stocks.
  • Present new scientific findings on the biology and ecology of these species that can be used to improve fisheries management.
  • Link biological and environmental changes that can be used to forecast species distribution and productivity in relation to climate change.
  • Present and appraise the effectiveness of management strategies and actions in the absence, under and after rebuilding.

Contributions are encouraged on biological (e.g., physiology, genetics, growth, reproduction, survival), ecological (e.g., distribution, abundance, behaviour, predator-prey interactions), and bio-physical processes (e.g., transport, climate forcing, coupled models) as well as among stock and species comparisons and fishery management strategies that aid in sustainable resource use.

The Symposium is open to all interested scientists, managers and stakeholders. Students are encouraged to participate.

Registration opens 1 February 2013.
Abstract submission deadline is 26 April 2013.
